  1. thanks for another chapter ^^

btw the part with “I addressed Kulgan…” seems to be the same as the next part “I asked Kulgan…”.

  2. I’m hoping for continuous translation (it’s an awesome novel and going LN is surely a pain but good luck!)

  3. Thanks for the new chapter! Lol! Downfall for Heronia!

Yes, that’s what I thought when Cecil considered giving the Downfall to someone else!

      • Man, Cecil is seriously the true villain. This downfall reversal is gonna go well since he’s got the bishonen team on it!

  4. don’t be mean to Heronia she’s just stupider then bertia (other then her amazing memory to remember how many lines word for word from that game)

    • Well, Bertia didn’t memorize the lines but her knowledge of the lore behind the game isn’t any less impressive. It doesn’t come up often but remember that she
      – knew precisely the names of people who brought the father of the villainess down the wrong path
      – had a good grasp of symptoms and treatment for the disease that ravaged the country (and killed the game!bertia’s mother) in the game’s backstory
      – has enough of a grasp of relationships between background characters to give worthwhile romantic advice to them when they start bringing her sweets (we know that it’s not the case of her being observant enough or smart enough to come up with something useful on the spot)
Can you imagine how much lore she needs to have recorded in that head of hers? And it doesn’t sound like lore that can even be taken from the game itself – I mean, there doesn’t seem to be a chance for many of these things to even come up during the game. She must’ve read a lot of supplementary material – and memorized most of it.

Although one must add at this point: how the hell did she manage to miss the existence of magic? It sounds as if it wasn’t supposed to exist and got added to the game retroactively as a sequel came out (after all if the friendly bird had been a spirit and used magic even in the game, there’s no way for Bertia to be surprised by magic’s existence).

Anyway. Bertia seems to have memorized A LOT of things. It’s just that when it comes to reasoning, she… has her own thinking patterns. Maybe previous life memories fried her brain. Or maybe Game!Bertia was brain-damaged but then got infused with spirit and memories of a person with normal (if not superior) mental capacity, but now the whole thing overheats and gives the amusing effects that the prince finds so entertaining to observe.

The problems with Heronia seems to be much more serious, btw. Bertia tends to overestimate the “compelling force” and is dense in all meanings of the word but she does adjust to the situation. She got fixated on following the game story but was capable of all three: consciously manipulating it (playing matchmaker), consciously defying it (saving her mother) and consciously trying to put it right to alleviate the expected problems caused by the divergence between the story and reality. It wasn’t really well thought-out most of the time but she was working with the reality around her. She adjusted – or at least tried to adjust – to what was going on. Compare Heronia who went as far as using (with no modifications whatsoever) scripted lines that made no sense due to changes that already happened (like thanking the prince for flowers she never received from him).

      Basically:
BERTIA is really stupid + fixated on the idea that the compelling force of the game has (or is going to have) decisive impact on key events.
HERONIA is mentally handicapped + her fixation got severe enough to make her lose grasp on reality.
